Today is International NO DIET Day, May 6, and we invite you to pause, take a deep breath, and celebrate No Diet Day—a global movement that shines a light on the harmful effects of diet culture and encourages body acceptance, appreciation and food freedom.
For too long, dieting has been marketed as the key to health and happiness, when in reality, it often leads to guilt, disordered eating, and poor self-esteem. No Diet Day reminds us to question these messages and reclaim a more balanced, compassionate approach that nourishes our bodies. This week we will be publishing a series of blog posts about Diet Culture and why diets don't work.
Why International No Diet Day Matters
Diet culture thrives on promoting unrealistic appearance ideals and quick fixes, often ignoring the impact on mental health and sustainable wellbeing. On this day, we acknowledge that health isn’t one-size-fits-all—and it certainly isn’t defined by the number on a scale. Instead, it’s about tuning in, being kind to ourselves, and making choices that feel good from the inside out.
Instead of Dieting, follow these proven strategies
If you're ready to leave restrictive eating behind, here are three empowering approaches to try:
Intuitive Eating Learn to trust your body’s hunger and fullness signals. Eat what feels nourishing and satisfying—without rules or guilt. Intuitive eating supports a healthy relationship with food and helps reconnect with your body’s natural wisdom.
Mindful Meals Slow down and engage all your senses while eating. Where does your food come from? How does it taste, smell, and feel? Eating mindfully encourages better digestion, satisfaction, and gratitude for the nourishment you receive.
Body Neutrality You don’t have to love your body every day to treat it with respect. Body neutrality focuses on what your body can do, rather than how it looks. It’s a gentle shift that reduces shame and invites self-care over self-criticism.
